Island Tour Itineraries: Half-Day and Full-Day Plans
Barbados is only about 21 miles long and 14 miles wide, but it is packed with variety. With a private driver you can see a lot in a single day. Here are some of our favourite plans.
Half-Day Option 1: Caves and Gardens (4 hours)
- Harrison's Cave in St. Thomas: Ride a tram through a crystal-filled limestone cave with streams and waterfalls
- Hunte's Gardens in St. Joseph: A lush tropical garden set in a sinkhole
- Return via the scenic central roads through sugar cane country
Half-Day Option 2: Bridgetown and Carlisle Bay (4 hours)
- Bridgetown and its Garrison, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Parliament Buildings and National Heroes Square
- Carlisle Bay for a swim or snorkel over shallow shipwrecks
- A rum distillery visit to finish
Full-Day: The Grand Island Tour (7-8 hours)
- Start on the West Coast and head inland to Harrison's Cave
- Gun Hill Signal Station for sweeping views across the island
- Bathsheba on the rugged East Coast, famous for its giant rock formations and the Soup Bowl surf break
- Lunch on the East Coast with an ocean view
- Cherry Tree Hill and St. Nicholas Abbey for history and a heritage railway
- Animal Flower Cave at North Point, a sea cave with natural pools and dramatic cliffs
- Return along the West Coast in time for sunset
Make It Your Own
Every tour is fully flexible. Popular additions include:
- Andromeda Botanic Gardens near Bathsheba
- Farley Hill National Park for picnics and views
- Barbados Wildlife Reserve to see green monkeys
- Beach stops at Bottom Bay or Crane Beach on the South-East Coast
What to Bring
- Swimwear and a towel if you plan a beach stop
- Comfortable walking shoes for caves and gardens
- Sunscreen, a hat and water
- Cash or a card for entrance fees and lunch
Tips
- Book attraction tickets in advance in peak season, especially Harrison's Cave
- Start early to beat the heat and the crowds
- Let your driver guide you - local knowledge often uncovers the best spots
