Airport to Holetown & the West Coast: Your Route Guide

September 20, 2026
6 min read

The West Coast is home to many of the island's best-loved resorts and villas, from Paynes Bay and Holetown in St. James up to Mullins and Speightstown in St. Peter. Here is exactly what to expect on the journey from the airport.

Step 1: Clearing the Airport

After landing at Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), you will pass through immigration and customs, then collect your bags. On busy afternoons this can take 30-60 minutes, so do not worry if you are not out right away. When you pre-book with us, we track your flight and your driver waits for you.

Step 2: Meeting Your Driver

Walk through the arrivals hall and look for your driver holding a sign with your name. Your driver will help load your luggage and make sure everyone is comfortable before setting off.

Step 3: The Drive North

The most common route follows the ABC Highway, the main road that loops around Bridgetown, before joining Highway 1 along the coast. Along the way you will pass:

  • Sugar cane fields and rolling countryside in Christ Church and St. Michael
  • A series of roundabouts - the ABC Highway is known for them
  • Glimpses of the Caribbean Sea as you reach the coast road in St. James
  • Paynes Bay, Sandy Lane and Holetown as you head north along the Platinum Coast

Typical Journey Times

  • Paynes Bay and Sandy Lane: 40-50 minutes
  • Holetown: 45-55 minutes
  • Mullins and Speightstown: 55-70 minutes
  • Port St. Charles and the far north: 60-75 minutes

Traffic is heaviest on weekday mornings and late afternoons, especially around Bridgetown.

Handy Stops on the Way

Many guests like to stop at a supermarket on the way to a villa so the fridge is stocked on arrival. Just add a supermarket stop when you book and your driver will build it into the trip.

Tips for a Smooth Arrival

  1. Send us your flight number so we can follow delays
  2. Tell us about your luggage - golf bags, surfboards and strollers all affect vehicle choice
  3. Have your accommodation address ready, including the villa name if you are staying privately
  4. Ask your driver for restaurant and beach tips for your area
